Aspdnsf Commander for AspDotNetStoreFront Instructions

Please note this software application is provided AS-IS with no warranties or guarantees on its operation. We recommend keeping a backup of your database before trying this application as Simrun Technologies will not be held responsible for any lost data on your live website. You may contact us if you have further questions on the use of the Aspdnsf Commander windows application.

Quick Setup:
  1. Please make sure you have successfully installed the application.

  2. Take note of the directory where you have installed the application. You may need this information later; although the system can import files from any directory on your computer, it is advised you save import and export configuration files in the installation directory.

  3. When you start the application, you will be presented with a splash screen. This is normal, you can enter your registration key on your configuration tab and this screen will be disabled (if you don’t have a registration key the application will still work however you will have to wait 8 seconds before the Aspdnsf Commander can start).

  4. The first step you need to do before you can begin using the Aspdnsf Commander software is to enter your website details so that the software is able to log into your website’s WSI interface and perform updates/inserts/deletes and exports for you.

  5. Please enter your login information (this account must be a SUPER ADMIN account) on the configuration tab, please make sure this information is accurate and you will need to enter the FULL PATH to your WSI URL e.g. “http://www.yoursite.com/ipx.asmx”. Please USE THE HTTP:// PROTOCOL ONLY as the HTTPS:// protocol is not yet supported (this may change in an upcoming release).

  6. Once you have entered all of your information, click the Test Connection button. The Aspdnsf Commander will attempt to connect to your website, if the connection is successful, the Save Button will be enabled. Click Save and the application will close and restart. Make sure you complete this step as if your configuration is not saved, the Aspdnsf Commander software will NOT WORK.

  7. Once you have saved the configuration (and entered your registration key If you have it) you can now begin working with the Aspdnsf Commander software.

For File Exports:

  1. Exporting files in the Aspdnsf Commander is very simple. To perform Product exports please do the following:

  2. Select the Export Product Tab in the Aspdnsf Commander. Here you will see two columns of lists: available fields and selected fields.

  3. You can choose the fields you would like to export form the list on the left by adding them to the right. Once you have added the fields you would like to export, you can set the range of products you would like to export (note: the product class option is only available if you have the S.E.E. code base installed on your website). Alternatively, you can specify the date that the products were inserted into the system range instead of the product ID range.

  4. By clicking the start export your information will be exported, you will then be prompted for a directory to save the CSV file in.

  5. Please note you can use your exported files as a template to create import files, you will notice that the data structure is based on a “variant / row” schematic where each row represents a variant. ALSO note that columns that have multiple values are separated with a semicolon instead of commas (this is done to ensure compatibility with csv files). Not all fields support multiple values and other restrictions include the use of HTML and special characters. NOTE: category information is saved with the path information e.g. Brands/BrandA/BrandADeals, multiple categories can be specified by separating the category paths with a semicolon.

  6. Exporting customer and order information is very similar to exporting the product and variant information, however, you are not able to select which fields to export as all available fields are automatically exported for you (note this may change with a future release).

  7. If you need to routinely create export files, you can create an export file template that can be scheduled to run at an interval you wish. Please set the interval by first creating an export template and then importing template into the export scheduler tab. This tab is only available to registered versions of the Aspdnsf Commander software.

  8. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU CREATE AN EXPORT FILE BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO DO AN IMPORT AS THIS WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD IDEA ON HOW TO CREATE YOUR IMPORT CSV FILES.

For File Imports:

  1. In order to import information into your Aspdnsf site, you need to do the following:

  2. First you need to create an IMPORT CSV File that is compatible with the Aspdnsf Commander Software. To do this start the application and click the Import Configuration tab.

  3. On the Import Configuration Tab you will see all available fields on the left and the selected fields on the right. You will also notice on the top right there is a drop down called “Action” This is to specify the minimum fields needed to perform that action in your import csv file. Based on the action you select certain fields will be added automatically, these fields are required and may not be removed (there are a few exceptions as explained below).

  4. To create an import csv file sample; chose action Insert; the commander will auto fill 7 minimum required fields to complete the insert operation. Go ahead and add the Category and Product Description fields to the list and then click Generate Sample CSV file. This will create a csv file with the minimum columns needed to perform a product insert in your AspDotNetStorefront website. Note: the product class column is only needed if you are using the S.E.E. codebase, if you do not have this then you can leave this column blank when you are filling in your csv file.

  5. Once the file is generated, open the file in Excel or your spreadsheet program. You will see it is a simple file with 9 headers; you can fill in information at the variant level for some test products for your import test. If you need to see an example of your data in order to get a better idea of how the information needs to be inserted, you can first do an export with the same fields you are trying to import. By doing this you’ll have a working example of how the import data is supposed to look like for imports; alternatively you can copy and paste columns for an export file into the import and then save your import file. MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFY THE ACTION for EACH ROW for the import file.

  6. NOTE: HTML and some special characters are not supported by the WSI interface and will not be imported, please do not use special characters or HTML when performing imports with the WSI system. There are some exceptions to this rule, e.g. the Aspdnsf Commander will auto parse some characters such as the "&" ampersand character; we recommend testing special chars to see if they are able to be be imported by the WSI interface so that you can be sure.

  7. Please note make sure you put in the correct action for each row. It is generally recommended to only use 1 action per file, so if you are planning on performing inserts, make sure all rows have inserts specified, the same is true for deletes and updates.

  8. Once you are satisfied with your import, save the CSV file and close your spreadsheet editor. Please make sure the import csv file is closed and is not in use with any other application or the Aspdnsf Commander will not be able to process your file).

  9. In the Aspdnsf Commander application, go to the Process Information tab. Here you can specify the file you have created for the data import. Note: you can set an interval time for the file to be processed, this is useful in the case you are planing on placing a file with same name in the directory to be processed again at a later time (e.g. a P.O.S. system that exports a file every 10 minutes), the commander can be set to a 10 minute timer (or any other timer you specify) and will look for the file to process again. NOTE: once the file is processed, the Aspdnsf commander will move the file into its processed folder (you can set this folder in the configuration tab). Registered users can specify multiple files for processing, where as the Free Version can only have 1 file available for processing.
